I am an experienced and creative freelance television cameraman and editor. I started working as a cameraman in 1986. Since then I have worked on all kinds of television programmes from kids shows to major documentaries as well as commercials and corporate videos. I am a member of the Sony ICE team (independent Certified Experts) and have an in depth understanding of how to set up cameras correctly for optimum performance. My professional approach, creative camera and editing skills combined with my friendly personality make me welcome wherever I am working. I have a lot of mini-cam experience and have fitted cameras in aircraft, racing cars, motorcycles and power boats as well using covert cameras for undercover filming. HD at SD Rates without cutting corners!

I have a range of Sony XDCAM HD and XDCAM EX camcorders with Canon and Fujinon HD lenses. This amazing file based system can shoot at any frame rate up to 60fps, progressive or interlace. In simple terms it offers stunning broadcast approved HD images with the speed and flexibility of a non-linear file based system along with a wide range of special effects including true slow motion and timelapse. The best bit though is the cost, exactly the same as SD. I now a have one of Sony's stunning PDW-700 XDCAM HD camcorders. This camera produces beautiful HD pictures and is fully approved for HD production by the BBC, National Geographic, Discovery and almost every broadcaster in the world. As well as HD it also shoots DVCAM and IMX (very high quality SD).

I also have a Convergent Design NanoFlash. This amazing little box can record HD at a quality level far in excess of even HDCAM or XDCAM. By using it with my XDCAM EX cameras I can offer the very highest quality images but with a shooting package that is still incredibly portable.

For those difficult to get shots I also have 2 Sony HXR-MC1P minicams. These incredible tiny POV cameras shoot full 1920x1080 HD at very high quality and are perfect for fitting in boats cars and planes etc.

I am in the middle of producing a number of workflow and camera tutorials which will go on YouTube and in May I successfully filmed a large, violent Tornado in 3D.

Rate Card Changes

I have had to make some changes to my rates as I now have two different types of principle camera and new mini-cams. My new rates are £500 with full PDW-700 kit and £425 per day with XDCAM EX kit. The only extras would normally be additional cameras or disc and tape stock, mileage at £0.40 per mile (first 50 miles included free) and any out of pocket expenses such as tolls or accommodation. Filming Extreme Weather or Remote Locations.

I have many years of experience filming extreme and severe weather. I am an accomplished storm chaser with excellent forecasting skills and meteorological knowledge. I have filmed in the Arctic, deserts, monsoons and in hurricanes. I know and understand the dangers these conditions present and can advise crews and production companies contemplating filming in these potentially dangerous environments. I also have a range of specialist camera, communications and safety equipment to ensure any adventurous assignments are completed successfully and safely.
